We recently rang in the Year of the Monkey with a delicious spread of homemade Chinese food. Several years ago I found a recipe for Chinese braised ribs that turned out so good, and I’ve been trying, in vein, to search out that recipe. I had found it on a completely random site and I’ve had no luck finding it again, so I decided this year to just start fresh and to make my own. The version I made for New Year’s had the right texture, with beautifully tender meat, but the rub and marinade weren’t quite right, so I’ll need to do some additional adjustments before posting that recipe.
With the meaty ribs, I wanted to do some relatively lighter sides dishes to go along with it, so I found a vegetable fried rice and shrimp and spinach dish. Everything turned out great and it was a big treat for my husband to have so much homemade Chinese cuisine!
