Happy New Year!
I’m so glad to be back at the blog after some time away! We took a family vacation before the Christmas holiday to enjoy a little beach time in the Dominican Republic with our little half pint! We had such a great time. The weather was beautiful, the accommodations were wonderful and the food at our all-inclusive resort was actually really good!
We had a quiet Christmas, which was great as we’ve been dealing with some yucky viruses in our house, but we seem to be through the worst of it so back to cooking and writing!
I’m not one to typically make new year’s resolutions, but I thought it would be a fun challenge to myself to come up with some cooking resolutions for this blog. Here are my three resolutions:
#1 – Cook more adventurous, ethnic cuisine.
You’d think that having traveled to more than 30 countries on 5 continents and being married to a Chinese husband would have expanded my cultural cooking skills, but I tend to stay somewhat traditional with my cooking. I definitely have an expanded palate for ethnic cuisine in general, but just haven’t branched out much in my own cooking. This resolution also has a great benefit of exposing my toddler to a varied palate too! Be on the look out soon for a delicious pork and shrimp wonton soup recipe courtesy of a cooking session with my mother-in-law!
#2 – Make cheese
Cheese is one of my favorite things to eat and I rarely have found a cheese that I truly don’t like. I’ve been intimidated by making my own cheese, despite an interest in doing so for several years, but this is the year I want to try my hand at it. We have excellent milk available to us from our dairy delivery service so its time to put that to work for the greater cheese-loving good!
#3 – Embrace new opportunities
At the end of 2015, I started working to develop some new opportunities that will allow me to expand my cooking skills, promote this blog and even make some income for our family! Win, win, win! Excited to share more as the details firm up. Currently, I develop and write the Recipe of the Month Feature for Crossfit Rosslyn and Verve Health and Fitness and I look forward to continuing this project, as well as starting others!
